Job Description

Overview The Civic Innovation Lab Tutor/Leader leads a small group of fellow students in a service experience at the Civic Innovation Lab, a program of the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC), once a week. Your tasks will include driving to the Civic Innovation Lab, serving as the primary point-person for the Civic Innovation Lab/RCLC, training your team to serve as reading literacy tutors, and leading weekly reflections. You’ll get to know one of the organizations doing amazing work in South Bend, and build community with a small group of students interested in supporting their community. CFAM welcomes applications from students committed to radical hospitality from any faith tradition or no faith tradition. To qualify for this position, you must be a current Saint Mary’s student and eligible for Federal Work Study. Specific Responsibilities Lead a weekly team of fellow students to the Civic Innovation Lab Serve as a reading literacy tutor Provide on-site leadership for students Communicate with your team on a weekly basis. Email team members each week reminding them of service or upcoming events. Coordinate logistical details for your team and the Civic Innovation Lab/RCLC Facilitate the process of obtaining clearances and waivers for your team Track your team’s weekly participation Serve as primary point person for the Civic Innovation Lab/RCLC Serve as the Saint Mary’s-approved driver each week Obtain Saint Mary’s approval to drive CFAM cars Follow CFAM procedures for checking out cars Alert CFAM coordinator of maintenance needs for cars Facilitate meaningful reflection during Orientation, Closing, and once a week with your team Provide orientation and training to your volunteers at Beyond the Belle Orientation Facilitate meaningful reflections at the end of each service experience Ensure that volunteers understand the importance and value of reflection Lead more extensive reflections during the Closing Reflection Attend weekly Community Engagement Leader meeting Training Attend Community Engagement Leader Training the first weekend of classes Attend weekly Community Engagement Leader meeting Orientation with Site Supervisor Qualifications Driver’s license and comfortable driving groups Comfortable with leading group conversations Committed to mutuality, commitment, reflection, and justice in interactions Passion for supporting your community and learning from Community Partners Experience working with diverse populations in a spirit of cultural humility Excited to work with and coordinate students from diverse backgrounds Current student of Saint Mary’s College eligible for Federal Work Study/Community Service Expectations Embody CFAM’s core value of radical hospitality both in the community and in the office Communicate proficiently, promptly, and professionally via phone, text, email, writing, or in presentations Participate fully in Community Engagement Leader Training, Beyond the Belle Orientation, Mid-Semester Reflection, and Closing Dinner Support and encourage your fellow Beyond the Belle Site Leaders Benefits Hourly rate of $12.00/hour Conditions of Employment All student employees (FWS or non FWS) are only allowed to work 20 hours a week between all on-campus positions. Students who hold more than one on-campus position are required to inform their supervisor in order to prevent exceeding the maximum hours allowed to work. All on-campus positions will be terminated in the spring semester on the last day of exams.
