Expanding specialty farm operation in Florida is seeking a Hands On Farm Operations Manager to operate this farm as if it were their own.
This is a "get your hands dirty" active farming role where you will work this farm as if it is your own; it is not a manager's position where you just point and tell others what to do. In this role you will be more a farmer than a people manager.
Farming experience, an agronomy background, and a Bachelor's degree in agronomy, general agriculture, or ag engineering with heavy agronomic emphasis are all required. Horticultural food production experience will be optimal as they do have greenhouses. Most importantly, you have to know how to farm, to have experience going through harvests, and understand a variety of operational tasks including the usage of fertilizers, pesticides and other inputs.
You will make decisions on fertilizers, pesticides to use and timing, when to plant and harvest, and other daily operational issues. You will report to the General Manager who is responsible for the property, processing plant, and general grounds. There are approximately 25 employees on the farm, and you will have three or four who will report directly to you.
This farm consists of two properties, one a smaller acreage (about 200 acres) and the other approximately 1000 acres. They are located about 90 miles apart; you will be traveling back and forth as needed. They harvest two to three crops per year, so it is a steady, fast-paced farming operation with activity going on all the time.
