Job Description

Description Job Title: Accountant Job Summary: The accountant will be responsible for processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and guidelines. Location & Hours: + Location: Onsite in San Mateo, CA + Hours: 25 hours per week, with the potential to increase to 32 hours per week. + Start Date: August 4th, 2023 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Financial Transactions: Review, classify, and record financial transactions, including invoice payments, cash receipts, revenue billing, and programmatic expenditure claims. + Accounts Receivable: Process accounts receivable, verify receipts, prepare deposits (EFT/credit card), and track aging of unpaid invoices. + Accounts Payable: Review and process vendor invoices, reimbursements, and purchase orders; resolve discrepancies and ensure proper authorization. + Purchasing: Review requisitions, verify purchasing documents, and prepare purchase orders in compliance with agency policies. + Grants & Budget Management: Monitor and reconcile grant and budget accounts; prepare monthly financial reports. + Bank Reconciliation: Prepare and verify monthly bank reconciliation reports. + Reporting: Review financial reports for accuracy, prepare journals and ledgers, and ensure compliance with accounting controls. - Additional Duties: + Assist with credit card reconciliations and financial audits. + Manage encumbrances and related expenditures. + Track and maintain fixed asset inventory. + Prepare sales tax filings and maintain tax records. + Provide guidance to vendors and staff on financial policies and procedures. + Perform clerical and administrative tasks, including records maintenance. + Recommend and implement improvements to accounting processes. Requirements Required Qualifications: + Education: Associate's degree in Accounting (Bachelor's degree preferred). + Experience: 3+ years of accounting or finance experience (preferably in a public or non-profit setting). + Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting principles and processes.
