Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Activities Assistant III for the Inpatient Units of Acute Services within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.

The primary purpose of the Activities Assistant III is to work under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and the Supervising Mental Health Specialist and direction of the Creative Arts Therapist, provides therapeutic games, groups, activities for patient's leisure time and recreation projects on the acute service inpatient units.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Assists in the completion of activity assessment on all patients and documents in the clinical record. Documents patient's response to groups in the clinical record.
• Provides direct activity therapy consistent with social, emotional and developmental functioning of patients.
• Develops recreational groups that assist the patient in learning productive leisure activities and appropriate interaction with other people.
• Maintains current knowledge base for new trends in his\her area of expertise.
• Assists in maintaining a safe, therapeutic milieu.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Three (3) years of full-time paid experience in the mental health field or two (2) years of college majoring in a relevant social or health care field plus one (1) year of full-time experience in the mental health field.

Physical Demands: Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting 2/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms, 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time.

Work Environment: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
