Hybrid Telework Opportunity

The Staff Services Manager I (SSM I) serves as the Administrative and Contracts Unit Manager within the Administrative and Fiscal Operations Section of the Office of Health Workforce Development (OHWD) Operations Branch. The incumbent manages administrative operations, contract planning and monitoring, ensures compliance with state and federal requirements, and serves as the primary liaison to internal partners such as the Office of Administrative Services (OAS) and Office of Information Services (OIS), and coordinates responses to control agencies, including the Department of General Services (DGS), Department of Finance (DOF), California Health & Human Services Agency (CalHHS), the Legislature, and departmental partners. The SSM I also leads the development of standard operating procedures and tracking tools to promote transparency and efficiency. In addition, the incumbent provides guidance to OHWD management on staff performance, training, and personnel practices, and supports resource allocation decisions through data-driven analysis and reporting.

Working Conditions

HCAI offers a hybrid telework schedule with a combination of remote and in-office work schedules for CA residents only. The telework policy is subject to change, and additional in-office days may be required and/or minimal notification may be given to report to the worksite if an urgent need arises. If you are interested in maintaining a life/work balance and not dealing with a daily commute, then this position may be for you!

Telework schedules: The expectation is that all staff will work in office 4 days a week July 1, 2026.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate with tact and professionalism across all levels of departmental staff.
  • Skilled in researching, analyzing, and synthesizing complex information to convey key insights clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Experience developing and improving policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Commitment to equity, transparency, and accountability in the distribution and oversight of the areas of technical responsibility.
