Job Description


Duties :

  • Perform animal husbandry and health care in accordance with experimental protocols, Animal Welfare Act/Regulations, NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and internal policies.
  • Assist with scientific procedures as per study protocols.
  • Complete and maintain appropriate documentation for all job assignments.
  • Provide equipment sanitation and facility maintenance.
  • Work under Biosafety Level 1 and 2 conditions in an animal research laboratory setting.
  • May provide guidance to junior team members as delegated by Site Veterinarian or Group/Team Leader.
  • May serve as site representative on committees and workgroups.

Duties & Responsibilities :
  • Comply with regulations and company policies.
  • Document and maintain records of animal care, preventive medicine, and protocol-driven documents.
  • Provide animal husbandry, including feed, water, and enrichment materials.
  • Maintain and repair animal pens, feeders, and other livestock handling equipment.
  • Perform cleaning and sanitation of animal rooms and equipment.
  • Supervise junior team members as needed.
  • Restrain and manipulate animals for procedures and recognize abnormal animal behavior.
  • Conduct daily animal health assessments and administer treatments.
  • Conduct scientific observations and may administer experimental treatments.
  • Under supervision, monitor sedation and perform euthanasia.
  • Perform site biosecurity functions and assist with clinical R&D sample collection.
  • Assist with necropsies at the direction of Site Veterinarian or delegate.
Skills :
Physical Demands/Surroundings :
  • Ability to work in extreme environments (hot, cold, noisy, humid).
  • Attention to biosecurity, detail, and timeliness.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently.
  • Willingness to work with animals during procedures.
  • No allergies to animals or livestock/feed dust.
Visual Demands :
  • Must be able to read and see clearly (prescription eyewear allowed).
Temperament/Mental Requirements :
  • Maintain an even temperament when working with livestock.
  • Willingness to learn quickly.
  • Results-oriented, cooperative, and systematic thinker.
  • Ability to work in a team and exhibit sound judgment and analytical thinking.
Education :
  • High School diploma or equivalent degree (GED).
