Assistant Project Manager – Asplundh Construction

Job Title: Assistant Project Manager

The Assistant Project Manager's responsibilities include monitoring project progress, following up with stakeholders on the completion or delay of project phases, scheduling meetings, and maintaining project documents and reports.This position is responsible for developing and monitoring operational and financial metrics throughout the region including standardization of workflows and billing procedures.

Asplundh Construction will provide a company-owned laptop for use during this engagement. The laptop will be configured to connect to the company server or VPN. Asplundh Construction will provide a cell phone for company use only.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Track the status of field construction projects.
  • Assist in project scheduling.
  • Update tracking and communication tools (Smartsheet, Excel, performance metric charts, and tables).
  • Monitor and facilitate programs to collect production in the field using mobile communication platforms.
  • Validate proper work package submission for billing.
  • Assist General Forepersons as necessary to resolve daily operational issues.
  • Monitor and report on adherence to production reporting processes.
  • Validate and submit reports to utility customers.
  • Coordinate and review metrics for General Forepersons (GF) and Project Managers (PM).
  • Ensure customer billing submission and processing within contractual guidelines.
  • Review GF productivity with Supervisors, identifying areas for improvement and best practices.
  • Train new hires on the proper billing process/submission.
  • Monitor unit-based billing, determining profitable areas with monthly synopsis to the Regional Manager.
  • Develop a standard set of process maps for billing customers, ensuring timely submission.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have strong analytical skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with all levels of internal organization and the customer, from field personnel to executive leadership.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and charts.
  • Experience using Smartsheet is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to anticipate needs, be proactive, resourceful, and flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to analyze large volumes of data and perform metrics analysis.

Education & Experience:

  • Two-year college degree in construction management, engineering, or other related areas or equivalent experience.
  • Business experience is preferred.

  • A valid driver's license is required.

Safety:

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
