Job Summary:

The Cath Lab Technician is responsible for assisting physicians in performing invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures in the catheterization lab. This role involves operating specialized equipment, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining high standards of care throughout the procedure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procedure Assistance: Assist physicians in various invasive procedures such as cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, and stent placements. Prepare and operate imaging equipment, including fluoroscopy and digital subtraction angiography (DSA).
  • Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, obtaining informed consent, and ensuring that all pre-procedure protocols are followed.
  • Equipment Management: Operate and maintain cath lab equipment, including imaging systems, patient monitoring systems, and other specialized devices. Ensure that all equipment is in proper working order and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Safety Protocols: Adhere to safety and infection control protocols to protect patients and staff. Monitor patient vital signs and respond to any changes during the procedure.
  • Documentation: Accurately document procedures, patient information, and any observations in medical records. Ensure that all necessary documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth and efficient operations in the cath lab. Participate in team meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Patient Care: Provide compassionate care to patients, addressing any concerns and ensuring comfort before, during, and after procedures.
  • Continuing Education: Stay current with advancements in cath lab technology and techniques. Participate in ongoing education and training to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate's degree in cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, or a related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Certification: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification or equivalent preferred. Additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) may be required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a cath lab or related clinical setting preferred. Familiarity with cardiac procedures and cath lab equipment is advantageous.
  • Skills: Strong technical skills in operating imaging equipment and understanding of cardiovascular procedures. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
