ATARID Specialist Recruiters to the Property and Asset Management Industry are being retained to search for an experienced professional on behalf of our client:
Title: Controller - Property Management
To lead the financial operations of a third-party fee managed property management corporation specializing in affordable housing. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with organizational policies, internal controls, and GAAP standards while delivering accurate and insightful financial reporting. Oversee financial systems, manage accounting personnel, and support strategic objectives through effective fiscal management.
Responsibilities
-Direct accounting operations for a portfolio of affordable housing properties, including compliance with federal, state, and local affordable housing financial regulations.
-Provide financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis at both the corporate and property levels.
-Lead and manage a small accounting team providing mentorship, training, and performance evaluations.
-Administer processes for payroll, accounts receivable/payable, and general ledger management.
-Establish and maintain internal controls and financial procedures.
-Collaborate with property management team to align operational and financial goals.
-Coordinate audits, tax filings, and regulatory financial reporting requirements.
-Manage all aspects of financial operations, including maintaining accurate accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems.
-Ensure compliance with US GAAP, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.
-Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and adherence to accounting controls.
-Identify financial variances, analyze results, and carry out corrective actions.
-Lead external audit and tax preparation activities, serving as the primary liaison with auditors.
-Support executive leadership by providing insights into financial performance, audit findings, and budgeting.
-Implement new accounting technologies to enhance financial operations and efficiency.
-Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and manage internal cash flow, record-keeping, and reporting.
-Oversee external audits and coordinate the preparation of federal and state tax returns.
Qualifications
-Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
-5+ years experience as a Controller is required. Experience in affordable housing or real estate sector is a plus.
-Ensure financial compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including GAAP.
-Proficiency in accounting software (Yardi) and advanced Excel skills for financial modeling.
-Good written and verbal communication skills, with leadership and team management capabilities.
-Committed to serving diverse communities and understanding of low-income housing issues.
-Proven ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and prioritize tasks.
-Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Location: Duval County, FL
Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 Negotiable commensurate with experience; Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision; Vacation, Holidays, Sick, Life Insurance.
