Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager I, the Crime Analyst Supervisor (CAS) is responsible for supervising, training and directing the ongoing operations of the Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) Background Team. The CAS is responsible for the direct supervision of Crime Analysts I and Office Technician staff. The CAS provides guidance to analytical and technical staff processing firearm eligibility checks of applicants applying for CCW licenses. The CAS coordinates and provides direction to CCW staff by planning, organizing, and directing assignments and activities associated with the processing of CCW backgrounds. The CAS is the subject-matter generalists of all technical and interfacing activities between the various databases utilized by the unit. The CAS communicates with local law enforcement agencies, mental health facilities, superior courts, and the general public concerning CCW statues and regulations in addition to applicants’ eligibility to obtain a CCW license under state and federal law. The CAS acts as a subject-matter expert on state and federal firearms laws and regulations, subpoenas and certifications of CCW records in response to requests for firearm record certifications and subpoenas from law enforcement, prosecutors, and the courts.
