We are seeking a seasoned Data Modeling Architect with specialized expertise in designing and delivering financial data solutions that power executive decision-making. This role focuses on building a trusted and scalable data foundation for critical financial KPIs - including Revenue, EBITDA, Cash Flow, OPEX, and CAPEX - leveraging Snowflake Data Cloud on AWS.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for architecting robust financial data models, enabling analytics and reporting across Finance, FP&A, and the C-Suite. This position requires mastery of SQL-based data modeling, strong understanding of financial reporting structures, and the ability to operate at the intersection of technology, finance, and enterprise strategy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Data Modeling & Architecture
- Design and implement enterprise-grade data models that accurately represent financial structures, hierarchies, and calculations, including multi-entity consolidations, currency conversions, and time-based aggregations.
- Build conceptual, logical, and physical data models in Snowflake that align with best practices and support GAAP, IFRS, and internal FP&A reporting requirements.
- Translate C-suite and finance executive reporting needs into well-governed, scalable SQL models using dimensional modeling (star/snowflake) and data vault patterns where appropriate.
- Architect financial subject areas including:
- P&L (Profit & Loss) : revenue recognition, gross margin, operating income
- Balance Sheet : assets, liabilities, equity
- Cash Flow : direct/indirect method modeling, cash burn rates
- Cost centers, GL accounts, budgets vs actuals , etc.
2. Data Integration & ELT Strategy
- Partner with data engineers and platform teams to design source-to-target mappings from systems like SAP ECC/S4HANA, Oracle EBS, NetSuite, Workday Finance, etc.
- Build reusable SQL patterns to manage multi-source, multi-entity financial data harmonization.
- Design layered architecture (staging ? raw ? curated ? semantic) in Snowflake, ensuring traceability and auditability of financial metrics.
- Ensure accurate and performant ELT transformation logic, particularly for complex aggregations and period-end adjustments.
3. Executive Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with Finance, FP&A, CFO office, Treasury, and Investor Relations teams to understand strategic reporting needs and translate them into data architecture artifacts.
- Serve as the bridge between technical data teams and business leaders, ensuring financial data integrity and transparency across reports and dashboards.
- Support what-if analysis, scenario modeling, and driver-based planning through model extensibility.
4. Governance, Quality & Compliance
- Define and enforce data modeling standards, naming conventions, metadata practices, and documentation protocols.
- Implement strong data quality and validation checks, especially around month-end and quarter-end close cycles.
- Align financial data models with internal controls and SOX, GAAP/IFRS compliance frameworks.
- Partner with data governance teams to register models and metrics in data catalog tools like Alation, Collibra, or Atlan.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- 15+ years of experience in enterprise data modeling or data architecture roles.
- 3+ years of Snowflake Data Cloud experience in production environments, preferably on AWS.
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL, with experience in window functions, recursive queries, CTEs, and performance tuning for financial workloads.
- Deep understanding of finance data structures and KPIs, including GAAP/IFRS treatment, ledger-based modeling, and consolidation logic.
- Hands-on experience working with data from ERP systems like SAP, Oracle Financials, Workday, or similar.
- Familiarity with financial close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and restatements.
Preferred Qualifications
- SnowPro Advanced: Architect or equivalent Snowflake certification.
- Prior experience building executive dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or Looker using financial data marts.
- Experience with data transformation frameworks like dbt.
- Exposure to Python or R for financial analytics, forecasting, or anomaly detection.
- Understanding of financial planning and analysis (FP&A) methodologies such as zero-based budgeting, rolling forecasts, or scenario planning.
- Experience implementing data security models for sensitive financial datasets using RBAC and data masking in Snowflake.
Soft Skills & Core Competencies
- Strong communication and storytelling ability, especially when interfacing with executive leadership.
- Detail-oriented with a "data-first" mindset and financial accuracy obsession.
- Ability to manage ambiguity and drive clarity across finance and IT functions.
- Comfortable operating in Agile/SAFe delivery environments with sprint-based release cycles.
