Job Description

About Speakeasy

Speakeasy’s mission is to help builders to build and innovate. We do this by providing a powerful suite of tools that enables every developer to easily create or consume any API or service. We envision a world where developers can rapidly turn any idea into reality.

APIs are fundamental to how software is built today. API producers want to offer APIs because they are an increasingly important way to reach customers. Companies like Stripe, Twilio, and Plaid are API-first because of this. Infrastructure companies like AWS and GCP drive huge increases in developer usage via APIs. Internally, APIs enable teams to scale efficiently.

For API producers however, offering an API that is easy to integrate with is far too difficult. Developers spend 70% of their time on activities other than building the API itself: writing endless docs and usage guides, troubleshooting failed API calls, setting up authentication, building self-service tooling for users — the list goes on. Every team has to reinvent the wheel today. Most can’t afford the time and resources to do so. The result is poor API developer experience, unhappy users, and low adoption.

Speakeasy enables every API developer to build world-class APIs that match the best in the industry. Using Speakeasy, developers can create idiomatic, rich SDKs in a range of languages — without needing to hire a whole team of engineers. Our SDKs reduce integration time from days or weeks to minutes. We also offer self-service auth, troubleshooting, and usage dashboards, saving producers months of dev time and providing API consumers with a delightful integration experience.

We were founded in 2021 and have already hit important revenue milestones. We have raised funding from top-notch VC and angel investors who share our huge vision, and have significant runway remaining.

Our team is currently based mainly in San Francisco and London. We meet up and spend a week together roughly every quarter.

About the role

We’re looking for a Developer Relations Engineer who’s excited to put Speakeasy on the map — someone who’s not just technical, but who thrives at the intersection of product, community, and storytelling. You’ll be the first dedicated DevRel at a fast-growing startup, with the autonomy to define how we show up to developers around the world. Whether it’s building SDK-driven demos, creating zero-to-wow onboarding flows, engaging on social, or collecting field insights to shape our roadmap — you’ll own the full loop of education, activation, and advocacy.

This isn’t a passive evangelism role — we want a builder who gets things done, spots opportunity in chaos, and genuinely understands what developers want from their tools. You’ll work closely with product and engineering, but also with founders and go-to-market to ensure Speakeasy’s DevEx and messaging resonate deeply with our audience. If you’re hungry to play a visible, high-leverage role in a company that’s reshaping how APIs are adopted and integrated — we’d love to meet you.

The problems you’ll solve

  • Make our APIs + SDKs discoverable, lovable, and wildly easy to adopt

  • Build demos, guides, and example apps that shorten the time-to-first-wow for developers

  • Grow awareness of Speakeasy in the broader dev ecosystem through code, content, and community

  • Be the feedback loop between real-world developers and our product — bring signal, not noise

  • Own Speakeasy’s presence on Twitter, Reddit, GitHub, Discord, StackOverflow, and other key dev spaces

  • Represent Speakeasy at events, in DMs, and everywhere devs hang out

  • Help shape our narrative in a highly technical space (API infra, SDKs, DevEx)

Who we’re looking for

Our ideal candidate:

  • Self-starter — you can operate independently with minimal context and figure things out fast

  • Builder mindset — you ship things (demos, tools, bots, integrations) that others want to copy

  • Strong grasp of developer tooling, APIs, SDK generation, or platform engineering

  • High energy and bias toward action — you’ll be a visible and vocal part of our growth story

  • Experience creating technical content (videos, blog posts, tutorials, threads)

  • Comfortable representing us on social — from Twitter to niche Discord servers

  • Natural networker — you can build relationships with developers, DevRels, and platform teams

  • Hungry to play a key role in a fast-growing startup with high agency and little red tape

  • Focused on impact and company growth, not vanity metrics

Benefits

  • Generous equity

  • Competitive pay

  • 100% employer-covered medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • 401(k) plan

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Quarterly off-sites in SF and London (and maybe other locations!)

  • Work with a fun, collaborative, ambitious team
