Summary

Once Upon a Time Schoolhouse Preschool & Childcare is located in Belleville, WI. We provide a safe
environment where children can learn at their own pace developing the academic, physical and
social/emotional skills necessary to succeed. Our workplace is fun, cooperative and fast-paced. We

Curriculum, Pyramid Model social/emotional programming and the Nurtured Heart program. We seek
individuals with a passion for teaching and for spending time with children.

Duties

Currently, we are hiring an Assistant Director. This management role assists the Director in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the center, ensuring high-quality, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environments for young children. The Assistant Director position is more of an HR generalist position as opposed to an early childhood educator position. In this position, you will be responsible for supporting various human resource functions, including recruitment; onboarding; employee relations; employee performance management; policy administration; administer benefit and compensation programs; and more. If the candidate has not had early childhood education experience, Once Upon a Time Schoolhouse will provide free training to obtain required credentials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist and collaborate with other administrative team members in managing the day-to-day operations of the center, ensuring high quality programming and compliance with state licensing, and OUATS policies
  • Recruitment and hiring; orientation and onboarding program
  • Support classroom success--curriculum planning; environments; communications; staff skills
  • Supervise staff; performance management
  • Administer benefit and compensation programs
  • Manage training and development program ? identify needs
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging environment for children and families
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Follow all required safety and compliance protocols ? Policy implementation
  • Plan and conduct staff meetings
  • Provide and track continuing education for staff
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism 

Requirements

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age with a Registry Level 6 or higher
  • Bachelor?s Degree and/or education in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
  • Previous experience working in the human resources field (recruitment, employee relations, performance management, scheduling, benefit management, etc.)
  • Previous management and supervisory experience (2+ years early childhood or other program administration and staff supervision experience)
  • Strong knowledge of the human resources field and general practices
  • Knowledge of child development and behavior guidance
  • Familiarity with Wisconsin licensing rules
  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
  • Lead Teacher qualifications with knowledge of child growth & development, classroom management techniques, various learning and developmentally appropriate activities, preferred, but not required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; both staff and families -- Ability to work with people in a positive way
  • Experience using technology (i.e., Procare; Email; Google Docs; Word; Excel; Canva; etc.)
  • Ability to manage crisis situations professionally and effectively
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Understand the rules of confidentiality
  • Positive attitude: Find and share the positives! Solve the negatives or let them go.
  • Work as a supportive member of our team

About Us

Once Upon a Time Schoolhouse is located in Belleville, WI approximately 15 minutes from Verona and 30 minutes from Monroe. We are located in the old Belleville Elementary School. We serve infants through school-aged children. Our operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We create and implement our lesson plans using Creative Curriculum. We use positive guidance and follow the Pyramid Model framework and Nurtured Heart Approach. Each classroom receives 2 hours of lesson planning time each week, additional conference planning time in preparation for parent/teacher conferences, and other incentives throughout the year.
