Job Description:

Dining Services at Madison College is seeking a Food Service Assistant – Cashier to work with other Cashiers and the Front of House Lead to manage the checkout process in the cafeteria. Key responsibilities include frequent cash handling, provide excellent and efficient customer service, ensuring cleanliness in line with Dane County Public Health Department standards. In addition, the Food Service Assistant – Cashier performs daily cash reconciliation, opening and closing the cafeteria, stocking items, and supporting other areas as needed. This role reports to the Front of House Lead and does not have any direct reports.

This part-time, 25 hours a week, 38-weeks per year position during the Fall and Spring semesters. General working hours 12:00pm - 5:00pm Monday – Friday.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Daily cash handling
  • Maintain positive customer experience.
  • Continually maintain high standards of service to quickly move customers through cafeteria. Utilize conflict resolution strategies. Participate in training and education opportunities to help implement goals of department.
  • Ensure public and multi-functional workstations are clean and sanitized by adherence to Dane County Public
  • Health Department regulations. Ensure cleanliness and organization of cafeteria
  • Daily cash reconciliation or accurately completing all financial transactions and reports for all monies, including cash, credit card, and OneCard, taken in at assigned venue
  • Complete Drawer Reconciliation Form and submit cash out deposit form
  • Open or close Cafeteria per Food Services procedures
  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision and values.
  • Other duties as defined by department, college, or officials.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Organizational and time management skills to efficiently produce specialty coffee, tea and other products sold to guests of Madison College
  • Process all financial transactions efficiently while maintaining accuracy
  • Knowledge of food service industry sanitation and safety standards
  • Math and cash accounting skills
  • Ability to lift 25#

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School/GED or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • Six (6) months of work experience directly related to the skills required for successfully performing the duties of this position.
