Job Description

Better Numbers is a remote firm that specializes in bookkeeping, tax preparation and planning, and advisory services for growth-minded entrepreneurs. Our goal is to empower entrepreneurs to move their businesses forward.

You'll love coming to work every day if you get, want, and have the capacity to:

  • Communicate clearly and proactively with customers on bookkeeping matters
  • Code transactions, book journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts
  • Run payroll for businesses with employees in multiple states
  • Assist customers with their accounts payable
  • Assist customers with their accounts receivable
  • Calculate and file 1099s for customers
  • Prepare, review and remit payroll, income, sales and use taxes as applicable

What you need to succeed:

  • You have 2-5 years of bookkeeping experience in a public accounting firm
  • Tech-savvy and proficient in QuickBooks Online and other bookkeeping apps. You're a QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor or are willing to obtain the certification.
  • Skilled problem solver with strong attention to detail
  • Effective communicator through video platforms like Zoom and Loom

What you can expect from the hiring process:

  • Required: Along with your resume, provide a video of you answering these four questions: 1) What are your career goals?, 2) What are you  really  good at professionally?, 3) What are you not so good at or not so interested in doing professionally? and 4) How would your last three managers rate your performance? We recommend Loom for this exercise, and please don't spend more than 5 minutes on it.

  • You will be invited to c omplete two assessments that we will send to you: QuickBooks Online and Numerical Reasoning

  • Interview with the owner of the firm. Learn about the firm and make sure we're a good fit! We'll ask questions about you, your work experience, and your bona fides. You'll then have a chance to ask any questions you may have – so be sure to have some ready!
  • You will be invited to complete two assessments that we will send to you: KOLBE and DISC.

  • Final interview with the firm owner, which will primarily be a timed technical assessment.
  • Provide 3 professional references (so we can check all the boxes).
  • If you're a good fit, you will meet with the owner of the firm to receive a job offer, review your specific job description and to learn about the particulars of the role and the firm.
  • Onboarding and training will be provided to learn how and why we do what we do.
