To provide a Geography, Geomatics or GIS student intern with practical railroad experience on in researching, documenting, administering and creating various mapping products, and updating other data, in the GIS ecosystem.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Enters and depicts data regarding various subject matters into the GIS database or GIS Environment. This work can be for any department
Assists with GIS maintenance and administrative tasks as needed.
Assists with requests for data and information for internal and external users.
Knowledge of basic computer use is required. The ability to operate a computer and use MS Excel and MS Word is required. Must have course work or experience working with ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap software. Must have basic knowledge of Internet-related and other PC software as well as the ability to learn and explore new software independently. Excellent verbal communication skills; ability to deal with external clients as well as internal staff. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to use discretion when dealing with sensitive or confidential data.
FACTOR 2: Analytical Skills and Impact
Must have the ability to analyze record drawings, As-Builts, GPS data, imagery, surveys, plats, field notes and other recorded documents to create and update GIS data, as well as recognize and correct discrepancies in GIS data. Must have the ability to translate and understand information in non GIS styles or formats and apply the information in a GIS context.
FACTOR 3: Supervision and Control
The incumbent has no direct supervisory responsibilities. The incumbent works under the direction of the GIS Program Manager in applying academic learning to the performance of assigned duties.
FACTOR 4: Communication
Contacts are with IT personnel and other ARRC employees for the purpose of coordinating work assignments and performance of day-to-day duties. The incumbent brings issues and discrepancies to the GIS Program Manager for resolution and receives instructions as to how to handle situations.

Must be recently graduated, enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited college or university in a curriculum leading to an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in geography, land surveying, geomatics, GIS, computer science or other related field.
