Job Description

Job Summary:

Responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of all mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and refrigeration systems in Union South and food service units across campus. Based on operation needs, employee may be assigned other duties such as landscaping and planting.

Responsibilities:

Installs, maintains, and repairs environmental control or refrigeration equipment to ensure proper operation of equipment within an assigned facility. May direct the work of other staff performing routine maintenance and repair functions.
  • 20% Monitors, tests, maintains, and repairs Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, related equipment, and controls according to established policies and procedures
  • 20% Receives, prioritizes, and responds to service requests according to established timelines and policies
  • 20% Identifies, prioritizes, troubleshoots, and escalates system problems, equipment malfunctions, and repair needs
  • 20% Performs scheduled preventative and routine maintenance and documents activity on equipment and systems to ensure optimal and safe operation
  • 15% Develops and schedules operational work plans for staff occasionally
  • 5% Works Special events as required for operational needs

Required:
-HVAC/Mechanic experience

Preferred two years' experience with the following:
-Building maintenance
-Trouble shooting experience
-Maintaining and repair of food service equipment
-Maintaining and conducting the repairs of HVAC equipment
-Industrial, technical or HVAC-related degree or certifications

License/Certification:

Preferred
EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification

Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Work Schedule:

Hours for this position are Monday-Friday 6:30am-3pm. Along with other HVAC mechanics, will have rotating weekends & holidays on call.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

This position is eligible for an additional $0.80/hr on weekend shifts.

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.
