About the Team

The designer in this role will partner with the design lead and work closely with product owners to ensure our vision and strategy align. Our team collaborates with content, technology, and accessibility teams to create solutions that are technologically advanced, content-rich, and user-friendly.

About the Opportunity

As our Senior UX/UI Designer, you'll work closely with our design team, product leads, and engineering partners to develop creative solutions that meet business goals and user needs. You'll contribute to our global design system and help maintain a consistent College Board digital testing and reporting brand across various channels.

We seek someone highly skilled, motivated, and passionate about visual design, UX, and research. You should embrace collaboration while maintaining an entrepreneurial spirit and use research and data to enhance usability, accessibility, and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

Design, Research, and Implementation (60%)

• Support Design Research (generative and evaluative) initiatives for your team/products
• Analyze business and technical requirements, lead synthesis sessions, and follow agile and lean methodologies
• Create user journeys, wireframes, interactive prototypes, comps, specifications, and other design documents
• Partner with Accessibility and Design Standards teams to ensure compliance and brand alignment
• Present concepts/deliverables to working teams and stakeholders
• Collaborate with developers using tools like Figma and Zeplin

Product Design Strategy and Stakeholder Communication (30%)

• Contribute to UX/UI design strategy, refining design systems for a unified experience across products
• Document and present design updates to stakeholders and users
• Collaborate with multiple disciplines to ensure an impactful experience
• Participate in agile ceremonies to ensure design needs are met
• Advocate for user empathy, design consistency, and best practices

Project and Time Management (10%)

• Manage workload and gather necessary requirements and acceptance criteria
• Coordinate with UX Lead, product leads, design team, and engineers for timely delivery
• Foster collaboration between business and creative units to align visual design with project goals and branding

Qualifications

• Experience: 7+ years of professional experience in UX/UI design
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Interaction Design, HCI, Industrial Design, Information Science, Social Sciences, Graphic Design, or equivalent experience
• Skills:
  • Strong understanding of design systems, typography, visual hierarchy, accessibility, branding, illustration, data visualization, iconography, and interaction design
  • Experience with information design, user scenarios, digital interaction patterns, web architecture, and navigation on various platforms (web, mobile, tablet)
  • Familiarity with user-centered research methods (usability testing, contextual inquiry, field interviews)
  • Awareness of cognitive, cultural, and social factors affecting design decisions
  • Front-end coding knowledge (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively
  • Highly adaptable and self-managing, able to work independently and within a team
  • A portfolio of work is required with the application
