Job Description

Job Summary:

This is a summer internship that offers the selected candidate the opportunity to shadow Conference legal counsel and assist in document preparation and review, transactional negotiation, contract management, and legal research and analysis, all as required by the Florida Conference, its over 300 church congregations, and thirty-plus schools. This position requires the ability to think and act independently within prescribed guidelines and to exercise good judgment.

During the entire internship period, the Conference will emphasize the training feature of the assignment and provide as wide and varied an experience as possible in the legal activities of the Conference.


Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

Eligibility requirements for this internship shall include:

  • Satisfactory completion of at least one year of a pre-law track degree program.
  • Knowledge of principles, policies and beliefs of the Florida Conference and the Seventh day Adventist Church.
  • Demonstrated interest in the application of legal principles to religious-entity operations.
  • Familiarity with a variety of data and word processing applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Very strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform all job duties with appropriate supervision.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Interact well with other professionals and team members and develop skills needed by legal counsel.
  • Participate in daily work activities involved in the legal issues a religious denomination faces.
  • Provide data entry, review, and editing for a wide variety of legal documents.
  • Think critically to analyze and compare key provisions of contracts, leases, and other agreements.
  • Collect and summarize internal and public policy, statutes, and case law on discrete legal issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Conference legal counsel.
