Job Description

Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh – a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Job Description

Meet production goals by coordinating the activities of the mill operations group to maximize process efficiencies and gold recovery in a safety-oriented workplace.

Job Responsibilities

1.    To provide complex technical support to the mill operations team.
2.    Responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of all activities related to mill operations.
3.    Establishes operating priorities and works with maintenance and operations supervisors to meet production goals and to coordinate activities in completing work orders.
4.    Manage and evaluate the job performance of the mill Supervisors concerning safety, employee morale, production, operator training and development, and supervisory skills.

5.    Review performance evaluations, recommend promotions, and carry out disciplinary actions, in conjunction with the Human Resources Department as needed.

6.    Review documentation of accidents, injuries, and equipment damage and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.

7.    Work with purchasing and the warehouse to ensure constant availability of mill consumables.

8.    Recommend process modifications to increase gold recovery and plant availability, decrease costs, and/or improve safety and health aspects within the Mill.

9.    Monitor records concerning all facets of mill operations, including safety meetings, attendance, vacations, scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, and accidents.

10.    Work with safety and environmental personnel to maintain and improve the health and safety of the mill work environment.

11.    Participate in the design and construction of plant expansions or modifications.

12.    Punctuality and regular attendance are required.

13.    Prepares communication materials, manuals, and other written materials related to mill operations.

14.    Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.

15.    Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.

16.    Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.

17.    Maintain accurate records and files.

18.    Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.

Education and Experience

  • More than 10 years of related work experience; Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
  • Experience as a mine or drill and blast supervisor is required
  • College or technical training equivalent to 3 years of study in mine / metallurgical engineering preferred

Skills

1. Good understanding of gold metallurgy.

2. General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions.

3. Good working knowledge and skills with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.

4. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently, with others in a team environment, and as part of the management team.

5. Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.

Reporting Relationships

This role reports to the Mill Operations Superintendent.
