Job Summary Pay Rate This is a BART Police Officers' Association (BPOA) represented position. Step 1: $35.97/hourly to Step 5: $43.16/hourly (BPOA Hourly) Note : All External candidates will start at Step 1 Posted Date March 10, 2025 Closing Date March 31, 2025 Reports To Chief of Police or designee. Days Off Variable/As Assigned. Who May Apply All current BART employees and qualified individuals who are not yet BART employees. Current Assignment The Fare Inspection Officer is under the general supervision of police management and will provide supplemental assistance to police personnel throughout the District as related to BART’s Proof of Payment ordinance. Examples of duties include ensuring patrons’ compliance with fare payment requirements and issuing citations under the authority of state law and BART ordinance. The incumbent will also perform related duties as assigned. Selection Process This position is represented by BART Police Officers Association Employees (BPOA). Qualifications Internal BPOA Community Services Officer (CSO) and Transit Ambassador (AMB) applicants will be screened to ensure that minimum qualifications are met. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will then be referred to the hiring department for the completion of further selection processes. The selection process will include 2 phases: Phase 1: Minimum qualifications screening Phase 2: Oral panel interview The selection process for all other applicants will include the following four (4) phases: Phase 1: Written Exam Phase 2: Minimum qualifications screening Phase 3: Oral panel interview Phase 4: Investigative background check The successful candidate must have an employment history demonstrating reliability and dependability; provide copies of certificates, diplomas or other documents as required by law, including those establishing his/her right to work in the U. S.; pass a pre-employment medical examination which includes a drug and alcohol screen, and which is specific to the essential job functions and requirements. Pre-employment processing will also include a background check and successful completion of a polygraph exam.
