Principal Investigator (Archaeologist)
A growing cultural resources team is seeking a Principal Investigator (Archaeologist) to lead and co-manage archaeological projects across Texas and surrounding states. This role involves overseeing Phase I–III fieldwork, supervising teams, analyzing findings, and contributing to high-quality archaeological reporting. The ideal candidate will bring proven leadership in cultural resource management, strong technical expertise, and a passion for advancing archaeological practice in the region.
Lead and co-manage small to medium-sized projects, or assist with larger initiatives.
Serve as field lead for Phase I–III investigations, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis.
Identify and evaluate historic and prehistoric artifacts and archaeological sites.
Document field methodologies and findings, and prepare archaeological site forms.
Write and review portions of archaeological reports in collaboration with senior staff.
Assist in evaluating project alternatives and mitigating impacts on archaeological resources.
Work closely with field, lab, and administrative teams to maintain professional quality standards.
Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal and budget preparation.
Master’s degree in Anthropology or a closely related field.
Meets Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards for Archaeologists.
5+ years of experience , with at least 3 years in leadership roles (CRM experience preferred).
Strong knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the Antiquities Code of Texas.
Ability to obtain a Texas Antiquities Permit.
Regional field experience in Texas, Oklahoma, or Louisiana.
Supervisory experience in Phase I–III archaeological fieldwork.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to provide a professional writing sample (thesis, dissertation, or archaeological report).
Experience working with Federal Agencies and Tribal Nations.
Three professional references.
Registered Professional Archaeologist (or ability to obtain registration).
Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, Field Maps, Google Earth, or other GIS tools.
Significant lab and curation experience.
Prior experience securing a Texas Antiquities Permit.
