Job Title: Printing Prepress Operator
Job Summary: The Printing Prepress Operator is responsible for preparing digital files for the printing process, ensuring they meet quality standards, and configuration for the printing equipment to achieve optimal results. This role involves using various software and hardware tools to ensure that designs are correctly formatted, colors are accurate, and images are sharp and clear.
Key Responsibilities:
File Preparation: Receive digital files from designers or clients and inspect them for potential issues, such as resolution, color accuracy, and font compatibility. Make necessary adjustments to ensure the files are print-ready.
Color Management: Manage color profiles and ensure that colors are consistent and accurate across various printing jobs. Calibrate and maintain color management equipment.
Image Editing: Use graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) to retouch and enhance images, adjust colors, and make other modifications as needed.
Imposition: Arrange and position pages on a printing sheet to optimize paper usage and ensure proper alignment when printed. Create imposition layouts using imposition software.
Preflighting: Conduct preflight checks to identify and rectify potential issues in digital files, such as missing fonts, low-resolution images, and overlapping elements.
Plate Production: Create printing plates using computer-to-plate (CTP) technology, ensuring that plates are accurately exposed and developed.
Printing Equipment Setup: Configure and set up printing presses and digital printers to match job specifications, including paper type, size, and ink settings.
Quality Control: Perform quality checks throughout the printing process, monitoring color consistency, print registration, and overall print quality. Make adjustments as necessary.
Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical issues that may arise during the printing process, such as paper jams, ink problems, or registration errors.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on printing and prepress equipment to ensure their proper functioning and longevity.
Documentation: Maintain records of job specifications, adjustments made, and any issues encountered during the prepress and printing process.
Desired Experience/Knowledge:
High school diploma or equivalent (education in graphic design or a related field is a plus).
Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
Familiarity with prepress software and hardware, such as imposition software and CTP systems.
Knowledge of color management and calibration techniques.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Knowledge of different printing processes (offset, digital, flexography, etc.) is a plus.
Note: Pay will be based on previous experience.
