Job Description 

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Construction Inspector to join our team of construction professionals. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing work within parking deck(s). Successful candidate will be required to review work being performed for compliance with plans and specifications, but is NOT providing building inspection services (i.e., code compliance assurance). Detailed daily recordkeeping, quantity documentation, and coordination with contractor(s) and owner representatives will be essential. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in civil construction projects and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment. 

Anticipated Project Scope

• Structural Repairs and Waterproofing
  • Repair of spalls, curbs, expansion joints, etc.
• Striping Replacement and Accessibility Upgrades
  • Power washing entire structure
• Restriping entire deck
• Adding cover plates to joint
• Adding signage, reconfiguring striping to meet ADA compliance
• Curb Modifications
  • Adding curb cuts to meet ADA compliance
• Lighting Replacement
  • Full replacement of every single light fixture (Roughly 2,700 fixtures)
• Fire Alarm System Replacement
  • Replacing panel, all alarm pulls, smoke detectors, etc.
• Signage Replacement
  • Removing signs, adding overlays, installing new signs to deal with sign “clutter” with parking guidance system in place.

Key Responsibilities 

Duties may include but not be limited to: 

1. Civil Inspections : 
   1. Conduct daily on-site inspections of civil construction project(s) to ensure compliance with projects contract, plans, specifications, airport standards, and regulatory requirements. 
   2. Verify that all materials, equipment, and processes meet the required contract, plans, specifications and standards before installation. 
   3. Identify and report any discrepancies, defects, or non-compliance issues. 
   4. Monitor the document control systems to ensure proper testing is being performed and documented.
   5. Coordinate with owner and materials testing agents.
   6. Monitor erosion and sediment control measures to ensure compliance and appropriate maintenance.
   7. Review contractor schedules and work plans to identify critical milestones and priorities.
2. Documentation and Reporting:  
   1. Prepare detailed daily inspection reports, noting any non-compliance, discrepancies, or issues found during site visits. Follow up on corrective actions. 
   2. Review of monthly pay applications to ensure values reflect actual work performed.
   3. Maintain and review comprehensive project records including daily reports, materials notebooks, and project files.
3. Safety Compliance:  
   1. Monitor and enforce safety protocols and best practices on construction sites. 
   2. Report safety hazards and assist in the resolution of safety concerns. 
4. Communication:  
   1. Handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
   2. Communicate clearly and effectively with project stakeholders, including owner representatives, contractors, and project team members. 
   3. Provide regular updates on project progress and address any concerns promptly. 

Minimum Qualifications 

• High school diploma or equivalent 
• Ten (10) years of experience in Civil Construction, Construction Inspection and Testing, Asphalt and Concrete Pavements, and/or Airport Construction.
• Familiarity with both local and NCDOT standards and requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications 
• Skilled in NCDOT and construction materials sampling and testing procedures/methods including ASTM, ACI, etc. 
• Ability to perform field measurements and complete mathematical calculations to determine areas and volumes, and convert between units 
• Ability to identify potential problems and suggest solutions or corrective actions 
• Attention to detail and ability to catch discrepancies and ensure all systems meet design and safety standards 
• Positive attitude, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
• Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions and terrain 
• Willingness to work weekends and nights, if required 
• Valid driver's license and favorable driving record 
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Associate or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering Technology
• Current certifications and/or licenses for Civil Engineering or NCDOT Certified Technician
