SUMMARY:
The Substance Abuse Counselor provides direct services to clients of the Bill Wilson Center, primarily for youth and young adults, ages 12-25 yr. The Counselor will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing services including emergency shelter, counseling, mental health, and drop-in center services to homeless and at-risk individuals and families.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; two to four years related experience and/or training; Valid state-approved substance abuse/addiction prevention certification required. Experience with culturally diverse youth is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) skills required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Driving required; current driver's license and insurance; CPR and First Aid Certification; background check and TB test required. COVID-19 vaccination required unless an accommodation is approved.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts as required for reporting.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Knowledge of Internet software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software; Internet research skills required; familiarity with databases and MS office.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Regularly required to sit, stand, use hands, reach, and talk or hear; may lift up to 20 pounds; specific vision abilities required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Moderate noise level in the work environment.
