Job Description
We are hiring college students who are pursuing their Education Degree, for tutoring students K-12:
- Early Elementary Reading Tutor
- Reading/English Tutor: 4th through 12th grades
- Math Tutor K-12
- TestPrep (ACT/SAT) Tutor
- Writing Tutor
- Study Skills Tutor
- You do not need proficiency in each area above. We schedule to your area(s) of interest.

Requirements:
- For Reading/English tutors: Education/Teaching Degree in process
- For Math tutors: Strong proficiency through Algebra 2 (Education Degree not required)
- For TestPrep (ACT/SAT) Tutor: Strong ACT/SAT score (30/1400 preferred)
- 1 year teaching or tutoring experience preferred
- Ability to make connections with students
- Strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task
- Working out of one of our locations in Lake Zurich/Barrington or Schaumburg
Skills and Qualities necessary:
- Teach using Sylvan based programs
- Direct and motivate students during instruction
- Reward students for successful work
- Evaluate and document student progress
- Communicate student needs to our Educational Team
- Develop rapport with students and establish a fun, engaging learning environment
- Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan
Sylvan Learning Centers are the industry leaders in providing supplemental education to children in pre-K through 12th grade. We provide individualized instruction in Comprehension, Reading, English, Writing, Math and Study Skills. We also offer ACT and SAT Test Prep.
We teach 7 days per week and require our teachers to work at least one of Saturday/Sunday, and at least one day during the week. We have extended teaching opportunities in the summer.
