Role Overview KBITS is seeking a
System Engineer II to join our high-impact team at Fort Gordon, GA. This role requires hands-on experience in Linux systems administration, cybersecurity operations, and infrastructure automation within mission-critical environments.
As a System Engineer II, you will be responsible for deploying, maintaining, and optimizing secure operating systems and cyber defense technologies. You will automate workflows and enhance system resilience in support of national security objectives.
Key Responsibilities - Configure, manage, and maintain advanced Linux-based cyber defense systems
- Design and implement secure infrastructure with backup and recovery capabilities
- Automate operations and maintenance using Ansible, REST APIs, and scripting
- Build and configure hardened hardware and software solutions
- Integrate and maintain cybersecurity tools (e.g., Elastic, SIEM, identity management)
- Manage multi-node cluster deployments and PostgreSQL databases
- Implement CI/CD workflows (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions)
- Use Git, Nexus, or Artifactory for version control and deployment
- Apply network security, IAM, and system hardening best practices
- Automate using Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell
- Support cloud-based virtual environments with standardized builds
- Define and enforce role-based access controls and secure workflows
Required Qualifications - 6+ years of experience in cybersecurity and systems engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years supporting cyber defense and secure systems administration
- Active Top Secret clearance
- Security+ (IAT Level II) certification at time of hire
Preferred Technical Stack - Operating Systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), VMware
- Automation: Ansible, Python, REST APIs, Git, CI/CD tools
- Security Tools: Elastic Stack, Active Directory/SSO, PostgreSQL
- Cloud & Virtualization: AWS, OpenShift, VMware
- Preferred Certifications (Not Required)
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
- Red Hat Specialist in Security or Virtualization
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Associate
